Characterisation of Biomasses for Their Valorisation in Energy and Biochar Production: Case of Cotton Stalks, Maize Rachis and Rice Husk

The main source of energy for most African families remains firewood. exploitation this resource is the cause accelerated environmental degradation with its consequences which are climate change and soil impoverishment. However, agricultural residues often available even abandoned in fields after harvest. In regard, we have characterized three biomass no economic value order to use them production biochar improve quality while providing necessary household cooking. Our research was based on following biomasses: cotton stalks, maize rachis rice husks. study made it possible characterize biomasses could be used combustion and/or pyrolysis. From results obtained, observe a high ash content husk (24.21%) against 2.41% stalks 2.00% rachis. These influence calorific husk, thus allowing matter pyrolysis not combustion. addition, corn can both as fuel pyrolyzed.
